Durthom
(Battlepoet) - You are a questor & scholar of wisdom - A
Durgan philosopher and warrior. Ultimately you seek to add your own
verse to the Epic Poem of Durgatha,
which is moderated by none other than Hauver, himself. The Durgatha
chronicles philosphy combined the greatest battles in Durgan history.
It is meant to provide lessons and guidance for the Durgan people. You
must document your battles against evil, in the form of 30 stanza, epic
poems. You will only achieve this highest D'rua (Honor) by venturing
out into the world and experiencing life and battles with full gusto.
Only after you've gathered the richest life experience (over several
centuries) will you be able to write of your battles with the voice
and wisdom of a true Battlepoet.
Equipment & Supplies: An
armored Durgatham journal (to document your travels, poems, and wisdom),
a blackiron key, a broach identifying your holt and caste, a double-bited
blackiron battle axe, a brown journey cloak, 1 month of ore rations,
a quill and ink set, a sack of dried mushrooms, a set of 7 blackiron
spikes, a rivoted blackiron greathelm, small hammer-pick, a bag of pebbles,
a pair of tough iron-capped boots, a small iron lyre, a portable shrine
dedicated to Bakova, 50 span of Darian rope, and a blackiron hauberk
which belonged to your Poetmaster.
Vaytho (Eld Doomwalker) - You are a Durga of
Drominholt. You seek to gain D'rua (Honor) for your Ancestors by journeying
into the world and destroying the Foes of your race. You either don't
know about the Durgan Reunification, or you don't accept it, and you
continue upon your personal quest one day, and one battle, at a time.
You still consider your status rivaled by that of the other Durgaholts
- Chaddunholt, Voldenhold, and Hauverhold. You still avoid non-Dromin
Durga, as they are of a higher caste.
Vayatha
(Farwalker - Absolved Doomwalker)
- Drominholt Durga have been
welcomed back into the Durgan Empire. You are now absolved of your Doomwalking
quest. However, you find it difficult to give up the lifestyle so easily,
and feel that your home is on your back, not deep inside some mountain holt.
Therefore, you've asked if you could serve Hauver in some other way. You are
now a Farwalker - you are the extended eyes and ears of the Empire. You are
free to wander about the lands, fighting evil, and looking for the enemies
of Durgakind. Often, you are sent upon missions that serve your folk. Now,
if you could just convince your "brothers" to give up their Doomwalks.
Equipment
& Supplies: A warm cloak for surface conditions, a 1 month supply
of ore rations, 2 skins of mineral water, a number of unique scars and related
stories, a small pouch of interesting agates, a blackiron travel knife, a
small hammer, a sturdy but worn iron helm, a suit of plain blackiron ringmail,
a few bone ancestor tokens, a burlap bedroll, a patched brown mantle &
hood, a thick braided beard, a wheel of flint, 50 spans of good rope, a pair
of well made travel boots, a vial of leather soap, and (choose one:) a great
two-handed flanged mace w/hidden dagger, a stocky blackiron warhammer carried
by your heroic uncle, or a reliable double-bitted battleaxe with several rivoted
repairs and some acid damage. (Passed from Doomwalker to Doomwalker over a
dozen centuries.)
Vaythom
(Ebonbreaker) - Some Doomwalkers
didn't want to become the "Eyes and Ears" of Hauver; we just
wanted go out into the world and destroy evil, just like before. We
accept the Reunification just fine, but things haven't changed that
much. We were still bred to battle our foes and gain D'rua for the Ancestors.
Nothing can change that.
Vigathim
(Youngbeard) - You are a young warrior who has been encouraged
by your clan to go out adventuring upon the surface lands. It is really
quite simple. Your Elders said: "Learn to get along with some of
the Mortalkin; Learn to kill the others. It is up to you to determine
which ones to kill and which ones to befriend. Just make sure that you
make the best choice. You will know it is time to return when you have
enough stories in your beard." With that, you were journeying upon
the surface lands...
Equipment & Supplies: A fresh
durgan light crystal, a simple hooded cloak, a suit of bronze platemail,
a canvass durgan haversack, 1 month of ore rations, a small canvass
tent (the atmospheric conditions are not consistant on the surface),
2 skins of mineral water, a small spade, a rough map of the Discovered
Lands (very general), a tarnished broach identifying your holt and caste
(it belonged to your brother), a short but thick beard, a bed roll,
and a sturdy weapon: (choose one) a very-accurate heavy compound crossbow
& 40 bolts, a two-handed blackiron cavern axe with pick on the back,
or a blackiron deephammer used by your brother to destroy attacking
dvoer (deeplings).
Gifts: Optimistic, Citizen of the Durgan Empire.
Faults: Naïve.
Toah-gathim
(Oldbeard) - You have lived a full, rich life. It is time to
stop leeching off of Durgan society, and have some true closure in your
life. You are going upon one final adventure; your deathbattle. You
may quest deep under the land, or you may leave the Durgalands and journey
on the surface; however, the end is the same; you will destroy as many
enemies as possible as you leave this world. You may be accompanied
by a young Durthom, who will document your glorious end and give you
a proper burial.
Equipment & Supplies: A very
long and grey beard, "broken in" Durga black-iron plate mail
& great helm, shaky hands, an ambered Durgan light crystal, a sack
of ground up stonemeal (for porridge), a broken-in journey-cloak, a
copper spoon & bowl, mineral spices, a pair of good durable boots,
an air of impending doom, a great quality heirloom weapon - choose one:
a 1800 year-old blackiron hammer from Voldenhold carried in the Bron
Battles, your grandfather's axe with a blade so worn down from sharpening
that it's not huge anymore, or a bronzite flanged mace so heavy it makes
your back creek.
Gifts: Respected member of Durgan society, Citizen of the Durgan Empire,
endless stories of youth, very patient.
Faults: Forgetful, stubborn, nearly deaf (poor hearing), shaky hands,
slow moving, achey joints, cataract eyes (poor vision), loud voice (always),
missing teeth, and requires many naps per day.
Hrut-Derovin (Artifact Seeker)- You have been dispatched from your
Holt to document the ancient artifacts that exist all over this world. You will
only return after years of making maps of ruins, and writing scrolls of your
many discoveries. Only then you can return to your Holt and add your findings
to the great Durgan library for future explorers to use.
Equipment & Supplies: A 30 span rope
with grappling hook, a finely polished silverine Holt Emblem, 1 month of ore
rations, a sleeping cot, 2 copper water canteens (full), a long white steel
dirk, a fine whetstone, several books and maps concerning Durgan ruins and history,
1 excellent light crystal, a blue tunic and pants, a compact ring mail corselet,
a pot helm of good quality (gifted to you from your holt), a sharpened hatchet
with personalized handgrip, and a blackiron gauntlet buckler.
Adur
- (Cursed) Any Durga that was not born in a holt, or who has turned their
back upon the traditional ways. You are called a "Dwarf" and are forbidden
to use any Durgan tongue besides Low Durgan. You have no qualms about pursuing
careers "forbidden" to "Durga": bounty hunter, rogue, bandit,
thief, mercenary, or gambler. You are of the lowest Durgan caste.
Redling
Adur - Any Durga that worships Ralu. Several small cells have erupted
in the Holts in recent years, the most notable is the Burning 13. You
are a chaotic dwarf... you often let chance decide your fate, and you
turn your back on all of the "Hauver-sacks." You are not against
supplementing your strength and power with potions and chemicals; you're
not going to live forever anyway, right? You are an enemy to the Durgan
nation, and on some days you wouldn't mind seeing all of the Holts crumble.
Those old-fashioned mountains do nothing more than prolong the traditional
ways that are dying. It shouldn't be surprising to learn that any crusty
Doomwalker that crosses your path will probably want to slay you. You
live in the shadows, serving your new masters: wine, Ralu, and laugher.
Equipment & Supplies: Assorted tattoos,
a jug of chaos brew wine, a great quality black-iron hammer stolen from your
holt (stained with red wine), a hammer-bearer slave (human), a pouch of slave
fodder, an armored girdle-belt, a (steel) wavy bladed knife (needs sharpening),
stone soled boots, an un kept beard, iron plated bracers, an iron grotesque
hune, and several euphoria booth tokens.
Gifts: Chemically enhanced Great strength, crazy eyes.
Faults: Enemy of the Durgan Empire, the mark of Ralu, wine addiction,
bad reputation.
