Location:

Located south of the Token Sea, and west of the Everblazing Orchard, the primitive little town of Tevet sits upon the banks of the great Gildriff River. The Gildriff is one of the longest rivers in the Discovered Lands, bubbling forth from artesian springs high in the Jore mountains, and flowing for hundreds of sagues to the Belt of Urgo. It is the life-spring of Tevet, offering cool clean waters and fat fish, free for the taking.

The Town:

The town of Tevet is a small collection of several hundred leaf topped buildings and huts, creating a rather informal community. There is no ruler here, no king or court, or even a castle. Instead, each rules their own life, and arbitrates their own struggles with others. Generally, conflicts are not so common here. Outsiders create most of the conflict, and are often ungraciously thrown out of town and into the Gildriff River by the locals.

The Way:

To come and go from Tevet, is an often difficult journey by ship. At times the currents of the Gildriff River are fierce, and can only be overcome by high winds or very strong oarsmen. The way is especially difficult along the banks of Everblazing Orchard, where flaming leaves, poisonous fumes, and sheets of fire have been known to decimate vessels laden with embersap. There are no roads leading out of Tevet, making this remote town very sheltered.

The Land:

The land around Tevet is arid, rocky, and free of most vegetation. Centuries ago, the region was covered by a dense blazing forest. The trees of this magical forest, had foliage of fire and spark. It is said that a "Silver Mage" came, and extinguished the leaves, by blowing the trees into the Gildriff River. The tale goes on to say that this event unfortunately started another fire, now called the Everblazing Orchard, further downstream. It has burned for centuries. Today there is no trace of the old forest, beyond the vast sooty fields and the deeply buried petrified stumps.

Embersap:

Most folk in Tevet make their living as pitch farmers. They dig and prod the sooty earth searching for ancient petrified stumps, which contain valuable embersap. Embersap is the primary ingredient for quality torches. Toth traders come twice a year, in Khurrus and Visha, to purchase the pitch, as do numerous others. It is also used for the manufacture of pitch-bombs, which are popular in Skorbael.

Vafor:

Vafor-berries are harvested, from the roofs of the stout stone-walled huts of Tevet, all summer long. Vafor, a type of sweet berry pastry, is baked and often traded for foreign goods in the late summer. Visitors to Tevet have been known to sell all of their weapons and supplies, in order to enjoy vafor for the entire season. Unfortunately, the delicate crust of the vafor does not travel well, making for sometimes sorrowful traders. The vafor-berry wine is also quite popular.

Typical Visitors:

Only two kinds of folk tend to visit Tevet, pitch-merchants and adventurers. Both are expected these days, and neither type is very surprising to the average Tevetan. Adventurers sail in at various times of the year, sometimes still smoking from the Everblazing Orchard. Once, an amazing fellow walked all the way from Tothane, though he was a bit shallow in the head. Most come to explore Enit's Dockbound's 32 Holes or the Deepstair and it's Watcherstone. Often they will be outfitted in town, with supplies and food by Garn, the town's most renowned adventurer.

Deepstair:

The most striking feature of Tevet is a massive ruin called the Deepstair. Its a gaping hole in the earth, from which a huge stairway rises high above the town. The stained stairs are littered with broken stones, and are chipped and worn from heavy use. At the stair's peak, a great stone head watches over all who walk upon it. Some folk say that it is in the likeness of an ancient king, while others insist that it is the face of a slumbering god.
